The Michaelmas Term started off in a really positvie manner with practically the whole of Years 7&8 in school for one and a half days of pre season training: the enthusiasm, energy and willingness to get stuck in straight away was impressive. Throughout the term both the Witham senior teams have impressed with their strength in depth and some fine performances against strong opposition.

 

However, we are proud of so many of our teams that have had very successful seasons. Even those that have seen fewer victories should be pleased with their undoubted progress over the term. I hope you will enjoy reading the team reports.

 

Special mention in this summary, will go to a few of our younger players, some just embarking on their sporting life at Witham. Orlando Thain and Tom Capstick-Dale, both only in year 2, were both confident and absolutely tremendous playing with the year above in the U8 rugby team; Felicity Bridge-Webb in year 3 was not only outstanding on the hockey pitch but also cross country running for the year above; Leo Cox in year 3 was dynamic on the U8 rugby pitch but similarly impressed as a runner for the year above. For the U9s  Ella Johnsrud was superb with 21 goals scored in hockey matches this term not to mention the example she has set with her exemplary personal conduct. Tara Lloyd, from year 5, was awarded a 'Player of the Tournament' award by the Oakham umpires at the U10 tournament and achieved her colours despite being a year young in the U11A hockey team. Finally Billy Chatterton has been so impressive in the Colts A and without doubt understands the phrase 'total commitment'.

 

Without doubt match afternoons at Witham would not be the same without the backing of our ground staff preparing the pitches with such care. Additionally the catering department and pantry staff undoubtedly make Witham match teas extremely popular! Finally thanks go to the many Witham parents who support with such enthusiasm which in turn enhances the atmosphere at matches each Wednesday and Saturday afternoon!
